Just over a year ago, Robert Kugler, from Nebraska, got terrible news from his veterinarian. His black lab, Bella, who had been in pain and had undergone a series of tests, was diagnosed with cancer. The prognosis was poor, the vet told him. The cancer had spread through her body and that she had just 3-6 months to live.

Kugler was offered two choices: either put Bella to sleep or amputate one of her front legs in order to at least relieve some of her pain and prolong her life. Kolger wanted to end her suffering but saw that his sweet animal was still very much enjoying life and he just could not give up on her. He chose the second option, and promised to do everything he could to make her last few months the most wonderful they could be. And he did.
